stuff

The new job is not exciting, but it's also not miserable, which makes it a vast improvement over the old job.

Wedding planning is proceeding apace. We're now down to that point where Weird Shit Begins to Go Wrong. The dress, carefully ordered last June, is still not here, because the buying service I used had a vendor go out on them. They're trying to get it rushed from another vendor and I've developed plans B, C, and D. The post office persists in only having ugly stamps to put on post cards (the panther is really creepy), but when I did a Google search on "ugly stamps," I found a number of brides in the same situation who'd discovered unused stamps for sale on eBay. The alcohol vendor we're locked into due to venue doesn't really do anything we want, but has at least been convinced not to do a whole bunch of things we *don't* want. Oh, and the ribbon I tried to order seems to be lost in space; I need to check the credit card statement and see if we were ever charged.

The bridesmaids dresses have arrived; I just have to coordinate a day when everybody can show up for the alterations.

I had three minor problems that could have become major fixed on my car last week. To the tune of $550, but at least I'm not going to lose a belt on the freeway, bake my spark plugs, or have the car catch on fire.

I'm home sick. I tried to head it off at the pass by getting antibiotics for the sinus infection, but I may have contarcted something else on top of that, so I'm going in to the doctor for a follow-up this afternoon. I want to at least not feel like shit by Saturday, when RH and I are going up to Estrella to see gabefinder and marinredwolf.

Yes, Estrella. Which means yes, I sewed (on my mother's 35-year-old sewing machine that has never really worked right and sounds like it's in pain). RH, I confess, is going in the "my girlfriend sewed me exactly enough garb that I won't look 'naked'" look of black jeans and boots and a T-tunic. Though I'm actually very pleased with how the T-tunic came out. Alas, the hooded cloak is now a hoodless cloak and a crocheting bag. If I get ambitious, I might get someone with more costuming experience to tell me how I made all the measurements larger and still ended up with the hood too small--or rather, how to cut one such that the same thing doesn't happen again. But I may just not get that ambitious.

I still have to do my taxes. I dodged them by writing/formatting all the other stuff that goes in with wedding invitations (RSVP cards, informational inserts, rehearsal dinner invitations, and maps). I figure that's fair--I didn't want to do those, either.

And now, I feel like I have sat upright quite long enough, thank you, and am going to go see if I can get more medicine to stay down and then lie at an angle (flat, alas, is not good right now).

Quote of the Week

" . . . The Princess Bride is permanently etched on my brain for all eternity. [My husband] gets to listen to the quotes. To be fair, I have to suffer through Star Wars IV, V, and VI. And The Matrix movies. . . . We're a pair of twisted peas in a little black pod."
